Shoreditch Hosts the Media Industry World Cup

Written for London360 in March 2016:

The Media Industry World Cup took place in Shoreditch, London on the 12th March 2016. Hosted by the charity Media Trust, it was a football tournament between 32 media companies (including the charity’s own team). Like a football world cup tournament there were group stages, knockout rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.

However, unlike a football world cup this was a five-a-side tournament where the top two teams from each group continued through to try and win the media industry world cup. The bottom two teams from each group went onto a shield cup competition. It was a fun and intense round of group matches between the teams.

The top teams from the groups were Rattling Stick, ITN, Sky News, Media Trust, Google, Mindshare, Turner Broadcasting (CNN FC), A&E Vikings, Kingston Smith, Yahoo, Sky Media, Outsider, Time Warner, Vice, AMV BBDO and Stink (United). The bottom teams from the groups were Trinity Mirror (TM Solutions), Discovery, Trinity Mirror (Red Top Rankins’), Bristows, Camelot, Saatchi & Saatchi (FC), Panalux, Final Cut, UKTV (FC Dave), DMG Media, A&E Networks (Top Models), Channel 4 (C4 United), Disney, Havas, Endemol Shine and Guardian.

In the World Cup knockouts there was stiff competition between the teams and Sky News were knocked out against ITN. The match was drawn with 5 goals each and was decided in a nerve-racking penalty shootout.

The quarter-final matches in both competitions were also intense and there were some tight results between the teams but ITN looked like firm favourites by this stage of the competition.

During the semi-finals for both the shield and the cup it was hard to tell who would go into the final but after an intese battle, the teams that made it through to compete against each other for the cup were ITN and  Outsider. For the shield Discovery would take on Trinity Mirror (Red Top Rankins’).

Both finals were played at the same time and both matches were down to the wire. The scores were 3-2 each but no one knew which way the matches would go. As the referee blew the final whistle on both matches, ITN had managed to hold on to their one goal lead and crowned The Media Industry World Cup Champions 2016.

On the opposite pitch it was Discovery who were victorious in scooping victory from Trinity Mirror after a closely played Shield final.

Before the post match festivities could begin, both Outsider and Trinity Mirror were presented with medals. Media Trust’s Chief Executive & Founder Caroline Diehl presented Discovery with the shield and ITN with the coveted World Cup. It was a day of jubilation for ITN and Discovery but the pressure will be on them both to win at next year’s tournament.

Frozen: Disney Film Review Blog

Hi Everyone! 🙂

This is my third film review and hoping to do more in the future! Most probably with SavanFilms who knows!

The film was called Frozen and it was a Disney film released on the 6th December 2013 in the UK. The film was loosely based on the Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen (Little Mermaid, etc.)

The plot summary: “Fearless optimist Anna teams up with Kristoff in an epic journey, encountering Everest-like conditions, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf in a race to find Anna’s sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.”

I enjoyed this film so much that it’s one of my favourites from Disney including Tangled (based on Rapunzel). I liked the singing, the story, the love between the two siblings and of course Olaf the Snowman!

It made me feel like a kid again and I am not ashamed of watching a children’s film because it’s Disney. I would watch Disney films until old age with my kids and grandkids (yes if it does happen).

I give the film a perfect 10 out of 10. I also liked to sing along to the songs too.

Here are two songs from the film:

Thanks for reading this and see you soon!

P.S.

Here’s a hilarious unnecessarily censored version of the film:
