VidCon EU 2017 Afterthoughts Blog

Hi Everyone! 🙂

This was going to be an afterthoughts vlog but I found it really hard to convey my points over in video form. I also tried to record the vlog at least 3-4 times before deciding to write this.

So I went to Amsterdam in the Netherlands last week to attend VidCon Europe 2017 (from the 7th till the 10th April 2017). The trip was so amazing and I have never felt so inspired to create content and become so positive. This is because I met so many people and became friends too; I also met my favourite creators who I look up to and admire their content. I also flew with British Airways for the first time since 2013 which was a nice experience and was the second time in 6 months I have left the country on my own.

The highlight of the trip was the creator chats with Bertie Gilbert and Jack & Dean. This was because it was so intimate, personal and I gained some useful tips and advice which would help me in my YouTube adventure.

The only downside was one creator panel on how to build an audience. It had stuff which I already knew thanks to meeting experts and being a part of the London Small YouTubers network. I left just as they were taking questions from the audience and wasn’t the only one leaving. There were panels and workshops which people left throughout the entire convention, but I assume this happens all the time at VidCon.

I didn’t have much time to explore the city because of focusing on VidCon but will visit the Netherlands again hopefully in the next year or so and explore. I might do a travel vlog series too like the Japan one in October 2016, but we will see. I will also buy an Anonymous Card which is like an Oyster Card which you top up and use on the transport system in Amsterdam.

There were funny moments too like being on German TV just asking TomSka what random funny fact he would like to share for my new vlog series.

As an Autistic person it was at times very overwhelming but being surrounded by positive people helped a lot. I also had my friends reminding me to eat and keep myself hydrated and I appreciated that a lot. I made sure that I planned out my day out, put enough time to rest and look after myself.

I will be going to SITC (Summer in the City) this August for the whole three days where I will be asking different creators what their random funny facts are which they would like to share with the world. I might be going to MCM Comic Con London this year because after VidCon it just doesn’t really appeal to me anymore as a content creator. I loved the past events but just want to focus on VidCon and SITC from now on. Also I hope to attend the main VidCon in LA, USA next year and will see if they do one in Amsterdam again.

Regards to my trip Japan:

  • I am learning Japanese and hope to be fluent to a certain extent
  • I want to spend two weeks in Kyoto visiting my favourite places and exploring new ones
  •  Finally, I want to explore the food scene especially being a vegetarian

Finally, feel free to check out below what happened in Amsterdam:

Take care guys!

See you all soon!

Over 133,000 People Attended MCM Comic Con London

Written for London360 in May 2016:

MCM Comic Con London is one of the largest conventions to take place in the UK and the third largest of its kind in the world. The main one that could dwarf it in size would be San Diego, California, USA. This is because the one in San Diego is the biggest and was the first one in 1970. The convention in the capital takes place twice a year in May and in October, over three days which normally is the last weekend of the month and at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre.

We visited MCM Comic Con on the 27th May 2016 and spent the day exploring and interviewing a variety of people including those dressed up as their favourite characters such as Doctor Who and DC Comic Book Characters. This is known as Cosplay (which means Costume Roleplay) and there were plenty of those in costume.

In our Highlight Montage Video we show the variety of people attending and also shows that it’s a safe place to express yourselves.

We interviewed a British YouTuber called Sammy Paul; he enthusiastically told us about why he goes to Comic Con and why it is such an important place for him.

We also interviewed British YouTube Gaming Channel Network known as The Yogscast. Their main channel in June 2012 was the first in the UK to reach one billion views. Below is the CEO of The Yogscast, Mark Turpin (aka Turps).

Finally, there were 133,156 people who attended the convention in the three days. This was a record breaking attendance compared to last year (October’s 130,560 and May’s 122,600) and the event will return from the 28-30 October 2016!

MCM Comic Con London October 2015 Blog

Hi Everyone! 🙂

On Sunday 25th October 2015 I visited MCM Comic Con at the ExCeL in London.

Here is what I got up to:

Nintendo Splatoon Cosplayer: Are you a Kid or a Squid?

I thought the Sunday would be less busy compared to the Friday and Saturday but I was wrong. I discovered that the Friday would be the best day to visit because a lot of people would be working and then they would visit over the weekend instead.

Once I got my wristband and entered the main area, I headed straight to the VidFest UK area and queued up to meet YouTuber Thomas “TomSka” Ridgewell. It was the worth the wait, talked and took a couple of pictures with Tom. I last met him in May 2014 and he remembered our last meeting. Then I visited his booth, bought a wristband and talked to his team.

I then went to visit the Yogscast booth to queue up and meet some of the members from the team. I was told that the queue was closed so then I headed to their store and bought a pin badge and wristband. I wasn’t worried that I didn’t get a chance to visit them as I met them in May 2015.

I spent some of my time watching the Yogscast playing video games live on Twitch which is a video platform and community for gamers. This was a lot of fun to watch and people from the crowd were allowed to play with them.

The Yogscast playing a game called Rocket League live on Twitch.

Towards the end of the day I went and watched a panel by TomSka on his new material and potential future projects. I can say that his most popular animation series known as asdfmovie will be back in May 2016 to celebrate the channel’s 10th anniversary. There has been nine asdfmovie animations so far this would be the tenth one.

Finally, I personally had a fun day and I also met up with one of my friends. I do hope to one-day visit again at least once next year.

See you all soon!

Behind Closed Doors: Q&A With The Yogscast Panel Blog

Hi Everyone! 🙂

On Friday 22nd May 2015 I went to see the Yogscast Q&A Panel in the Platinum Suite at the London Excel Centre which was part of MCM Comic Con.

It was amazing seeing my favourite YouTubers being asked questions about the various going ons at YogTowers (their main base plus office) in Bristol, United Kingdom.

The panel was split into two with five members being asked for the first hour and four members for the second hour.

The first half included Sjin (aka Paul), Duncan, Hannah, Martyn and Kim. The second half included Lewis, Sips (Chris), AlSmiffy (Alex) and Ross. Also not forgetting the host and Yogscast member Turps (Mark) who was in charge of the panel.

I was lucky to take some photos with the Yogscast as they accidentally stumbled upon the queue for the panel:

I thoroughly enjoyed it and made new friends too plus afterwards had a lovely chat with Sjin. They accidentally went to the wrong exit and so did my new friends and I.
